Why do some people heal better than others (scars etc)?

I've always wondered b/c I've seen people get minor injuries as little children and have retained scars to prove it.

I've had some pretty gruesome injuries, and the doctor even predicted the scars were there to stay, but they all disappeared - no sign at all (as an adult). Why is that?

So why is it that some people are able to heal better than others in the same situations? Why do some people heal better than others (scars etc)?
A lot of things will determine how well you heal.

For example, diabetes, especially when it is not well-controlled, makes people heal less well. There are a lot of diabetics out there missing toes, feet, or legs due to gangrene caused by this.

Other variables that can contribute include how good your nutrition is (if you don't have the materials to build new skin very well, you're not going to build new skin very well), drugs (long -term steroids tend to thin people's skin), how good people are at not picking at wounds, and how clean the wound is kept (since infection makes them heal slower and uglier).

The factors above can influence, but some people also just heal better than others, the same way how good your teeth are, how easily you get stretch marks, and what your body wants to weigh have strong genetic components that aren't easy to change dramatically no matter what you do about it.Why do some people heal better than others (scars etc)?
man, I was wondering this myself yesterday or today. what a coincidence.

skin sometimes is so resilient, and then why would there be a scar. it's like the skin either heals itself all the way, or says, 'ok, that's good enough.' and you get a scar. so that's why. :)

those others are good answers, I think other factors might or might not be: tightness of skin at injury, and sun damage(tan).
Probably depends on the severity of the scar- the exposure to what caused the scar in the first place- the chemicals involved (i.e. there is a specific scar that has the appearance of acne although is not related by any means, it results from exposure to a substance including chlorine)- and also what the individual consumes (for instance, someone who consumes a well balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, or the daily recommended dosage of minerals/vitamins is more than likely going to have a better result in diminishing scars than someone who consumes synthetic, chemically processed food with no nutrients, etc.) also, genetic or DNA material could be accounted for- someone may have better genetic coding for repairing scars, and yet perhaps agitation- if someone cleanses the area where the scar is or doesn't, places a chemical that will or won't assist the healing in the area.. and age as well, how old are they is a general indication on how efficient their body's systems are working (a child with a scar at age 5 more than likely will have better healing versus someone who is 85)... many, many factors...
